From My Family Table to Yours

As a mom of five and grandma to nine, I’ve always cared deeply about what I feed my family—and I care just as much about what I offer to you. Since the late 1970s, healthy food and intentional living have been at the heart of my kitchen. I spent years experimenting with whole grains, seeds, and natural ingredients through food co-ops, constantly on the lookout for ways to nourish growing appetites with better options.

Pancakes were a staple in our home—filling, affordable, and made with love. We tried countless mixes and recipes until I found one so good, I stopped searching. My mother always said, “Buttermilk makes them best,” and she was right.

We called them griddlecakes because we always made them on the old family griddle, made them thin, and rolled the leftovers into peanut butter and jelly wraps for lunch and snacking. These humble, wholesome meals became part of our family’s rhythm—and eventually, the inspiration for Bev’s Best.

Turning a Family Recipe into a Business

The idea of sharing my pancakes with the world had been in the back of my mind for over 15 years, but it wasn’t until 2021—right at the beginning of maple syrup season—that the time was finally right. Our grandchildren had grown up loving my pancakes and were the loudest voices encouraging me to make the leap. With their support and help from my entire family, Bev’s Best was born.

Our first product, Back Home Original, was inspired by the old farmhouse where we raised our children in north central Pennsylvania. The hand-drawn illustration on the original bag was sketched by our oldest grandson, capturing the heart of where it all began.

Today, Bev’s Best offers a variety of nourishing griddlecake and waffle mixes and baked oatmeal blends, including delicious gluten-free options—all made with heart-healthy oats, high-quality ingredients, and no artificial anything. Everything is still crafted in small batches with the same care I’ve always given to my own family’s meals.
